2D vs 3D tracking in bacterial motility analysis

چکیده

<p>Digital holographic microscopy provides the ability to observe throughout a large volume without refocusing. This capability enables simultaneous observations of numbers microorganisms swimming in an essentially unconstrained fashion. However, computational tools for tracking 4D datasets remain lacking. In this paper, we examine errors introduced by bacterial motion as 2D projections vs. 3D volumes under different circumstances: bacteria free liquid media and near glass surface. We find that while XYZ speeds are generally equal or larger than XY speeds, they still within empirical uncertainties. Additionally, when studying dynamic surface behavior, Z coordinate cannot be neglected.</p>

2D vs 3D, Implications on Spatial Memory

Since the introduction of graphical user interfaces (GUI) and two-dimensional (2D ) displays, the concept of space has entered the information technology (IT) domain. Interactions with computers were re-encoded in terms of fidelity to the interactions with real environment and consequently in terms of fitness to cognitive and spatial abilities. A further step in this direction was the creation ...

3D Model Acquisition by Tracking 2D Wireframes

This paper presents a semi-automatic wireframe acquisition system. The system uses real-time (25Hz) tracking of a user specified 2D wireframe and intermittent camera pose parameters to accumulate 3D position information. The 2D tracking framework enables the application of model-based constraints in an intuitive way which interacts naturally with the Kalman filter formulation used. In particula...

Texture Segmentation in 2D vs. 3D: Did 3D Developmentally Precede 2D?

Texture boundary detection (or segmentation) is an important capability in human vision. Usually, texture segmentation is viewed as a 2D problem, as the definition of the problem itself assumes a 2D substrate. However, an interesting hypothesis emerges when we ask a question regarding the nature of textures: What are textures, and why did the ability to discriminate texture evolve or develop? A...
